What makes a man, a man?
Is it his flesh?
A well orchestrated lump
of air, water, and blood?
A masterpiece of nature's machine
Is this what makes up a man?
What makes a man, a man?
Is it his soul? His spirit?
One whose whole but not concrete,
One who feels what the flesh cannot
The embodiment of eternity
Is this what makes up a man?
What makes a man, a man?
Is it his decisions? His achievements?
The way he's remembered by his friends
Or how the judges of society
pass on their verdict
Is this what makes up a man?
What makes a man, a man?
Is it his memories? His experiences?
His failures and successes,
The way he cried and laughed,
The way he loved and was loved back
Is this what makes up a man?
What is a man?
If I take away just one of this,
Of flesh, soul, mind and emotion
What will be left of this man?
If I do this, then will I be able
To understand this being they call a man?
